World Junior Champs.-day 6 results-silver medal!

Lindsay Seemann, Matthew Swanston, and Stingray Head Coach Alan Swanston are in Monterrey, Mexico for the World Junior Championships, which began on Tuesday, July 8th.  This meet is featuring the best swimmers in the world, who are 17 & under for girls, and 18 & under for boys.  There are over 100 countries participating, and the swimming is incredibly fast.

 

Day 6- final day

 Matthew wins a silver medal in the 200 backstroke! 
Matthew had a great prelim swim, finishing 2nd in prelims with a personal best of 2:00.92, which was his best by a second and a half.  He then lowered it in the final to 2:00.53, winning the silver medal.  Matthew was the only male swimmer on the Canadian team to win a medal.  Congratulations Matthew! 
He also swam on Canada’s 4 x 100 medley relay which finished 6th.

 

Day 4  

  Lindsay swam the heats of the 400 freestyle in a best time for the 400 of 4:17.35, and finished 9th, only one spot out of making the final.
Lindsay has now finished all of her events at this meet.  Congratulations Lindsay.

Matthew swam the heats of the 50 butterfly, swimming a best time of 25.54, which wasn’t fast enouch to advance to the semi- final.  He also swam on Canada’s 4 x 200 freestyle relay, which made it to the final and finished 7th.  Matthew split a very good 1:52.21.
Matthew has no swims on Day 5, but will return with the 200 backstroke and the 4 x 100 medley relay on Day 6 (Sunday).
 

Day 3

Lindsay advanced to the final in the women’s 200 backstroke, and finished 4th in the final, with a time of 2:14.14.
She was in 7th place going into the last turn, and had a very strong last 50, putting herself into medal contention.

Matthew swam in the prelims of the 50 back (personal best of 27.17) and the 50 freestyle (24.22).  He did not advance in those swims.

 

 Day 2

 Lindsay finished 4th in the 800 freestyle in a time of 8:39.12. Her split at the 400 was a 4:15.87, which is 3 seconds faster than her best ever 400!

Shortly afterwards Lindsay swam the 100 backstroke final, finishing 5th in a 1:03.19.  Excellent swimming, Lindsay!

Matthew swam in the final of the 100 backstroke, finishing 6th in another personal best of 56.30.  He narrowly missed the National record (boys 15-17) by 11/100′s of a second!  Great swim Matthew!

 

 Day 1

Both Lindsay and Matthew had excellent swims in their  100 backstrokes on Tuesday.  They both made it through the semi-finals, and into the finals, which are on Wednesday night. 

Matthew took a full second and a half off of his previous best 100 back.

Matthew also swam on Canada’s 4 x100 freestyle relay, which finished 7th.  His split in the prelim was a very fast 50.69.

 Lindsay will also be swimming the  200 backstroke, and the 400 and 800 freestyle.  Matthew will also be swimming the 50, and 200 backstroke, the 50 freestyle, and the 50 butterfly.
