Newmarket Stingrays at Canada Cup

4 members of the Newmarket Stingrays raced at the prestigious Canada Cup meet this past weekend. This was a Senior National level meet featuring all of Canada’s 2008 Olympic Team ,as well as an extremely strong women’s team from Stanford University in California. The major highlight of the meet was when Stanford swimmer, Julia Smit broke the world record in the 400 IM in a blistering time of 4:25.87!Â
The Newmarket Stingrays finished an incredible 14th place overall!

 Neta Yokev swam a very strong 200 butterfly, fast enough to get into the “B†final, but unfortunately was disqualified.
 Matthew Huetl, became the 4th leg of the boys 4 X 100 freestyle relay which broke the Provincial record for boys 15-18, finishing 8th in a time 3:27.43.
The other relay members were Matthew Swanston, Neta Yokev, and Brandon Kingston.
 At the conclusion of the meet, Matthew Swanston was awarded the backstroke award, which is given for the highest scoring backstroke swim at the meet. He received this award for his 200 backstroke swim which earned 911 points on the FINA points chart.
