Just a few minutes later, Matthew led off Canada’s 4 x100 freestyle relay which went on to win a bronze medal.  Australia finished first, and Japan was second.

Day 2-  Matthew had a very successful finals , setting a new Provincial 15-18 Age Group long course record in the 100 freestyle.  His time of 50.95 in the “B” final broke the existing mark of 50.98 set by Hassaan Abdel-Khalik last summer.  He was just off the National age group record, missing it by 8/100′s of a second!

Matthew then helped Canada’s 4 x 200 freestyle relay to a bronze medal.   His split of 1:50.85 was the fastest split on the Canadian team.  The relay finished only 1/100 of a second behind silver medal winning Japan.  Australia won the relay.

Day 1-  Matthew finished 6th in the 100 backstroke in a time of 57.10.  The event was won by 2008 Beijing Olympian Daniel Bell of New Zealand.
