Spring Nationals highlights!
7 members of the Newmarket Stingrays raced at the Spring Senior National Championships, which were held at the University of Toronto from March 11th- 14th. This was a short course meet, and featured the fastest Senior swimmers in Canada. There were Canadian records set in almost every event, and of course the highlight of the meet was the very exciting World Record swim of Vancouver’s Annamay Pierse in the 200 breaststroke.
The highlight for the Newmarket Stingrays was Matthew Swanston’s bronze medal in the 200 backstroke.
Also, during the meet, an All-Star team was chosen from each of the West and the East, and they squared off in a duel meet on the morning after the completion of Nationals. This duel meet was long course. Lindsay Seemann won the 400 IM for the East in a time of 4:51.39, and Matthew Swanston finished 2nd for the East in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:03.30.
