Olympic Flame at Magna

October 26th, 2009 | Stringray Webmaster | Calendar

The following is information regarding this exciting opportunity for Newmarket Stingrays swimmers and their families:

Timing

  • Shuttle Service from Ray Twinney to Magna (8:00am to 9:45am)
  • Ceremony begins at 9:45am
  • Torch arrives at 11:00am
  • Shuttle Service from Magna to Ray Twinney (12:30pm to 2:15pm)

Transportation:

  • Parents are to arrange transportation and supervision for their own children.   Although we encourage people to participate, this is not a Club/Coach/Chaperone supervised event- parents are responsible for their own children.
  • Parents must assume there will be no available parking at the Magna Centre or immediate vicinity.
  • Walking or cycling might be a worthwhile consideration.
  • The Town is providing free shuttle bus service between Ray Twinney and Magna Centre
  • Taking advantage of the free skating or the demonstration events is one strategy to avoid the expected rush for shuttle buses immediately after the event.
  • If you are planning on driving, here is a suggestion-take Stonehaven Avenue(off Bayview) to Kingsmere and turn left.  Follow Kingsmere to just past Robellino Court where there is a dead end that will allow you to walk to the Magna Centre.  Kingsmere is a dead end and you can walk through and see the Magna Centre from there. Here is a link to a map: http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Newmarket&state=ON&address=Robellino+Court&zipcode=L3X&country=CA&latitude=44.04013&longitude=-79.44006&geocode=BLOCK

Assembly Area:

  • A 24”x36”  NEWMARKET STINGRAYS SWIM CLUB sign will be mounted to a parking lot lamp post at the Magna Centre.  We are expecting approximately 100-Stingrays to attend.
  • Visible Stingrays clothing and colours are encouraged (hats, jackets, track pants,  etc)
  • Wear more clothing than you think will be required.
  • Check the forecast the night before.  Currently Environment Canada is forecasting cloudy, low -5, high 0,
  • Consider bringing a snack, camera, skates, cell phone.

Let’s celebrate this once in a lifetime opportunity together!
