Canadian Jr. Swimmer and Coach of the Year Awards!
At the Canada Cup meet in Toronto on Saturday evening, Nov. 28th, Â awards were presented for the 2009 Youth and Junior Canadian Swimmers of the Year, as well as the corresponding Canadian Youth and Junior Coaches of the Year.
Winning the 2009 Canadian Junior Male Swimmer of the Year, was Newmarket Stingray swimmer Matthew Swanston, age 18.
The award is presented to the male swimmer, age 18 or under who has the highest scoring swim by FINA points, and world rankings. Matthew’s top scoring swim was his long course 200 backstroke swim at the British Tri-Nations Meet which was held in London, England this past summer.  His time of 1:58.61 scored 918 points on the FINA points chart.
Matthew is a freshman at Stanford University in California. The Stanford men’s swim team is ranked #2 in the NCAA this season.
Likewise, winning the 2009 Canadian Male Junior Coach of the Year award was Newmarket Stingrays Head Coach Alan Swanston.
This is the second year in a row that Matthew and Alan have won these awards. Congratulations to both of you !
