December Swimmers of the Month!

February 3rd, 2010 | Stingray Office Manager | Stingray News, Swimmer of the Month

Congratulations to the December, 2009 Swimmers of the Month:

National Senior/Senior

Cameron Kingston

Cameron Kingston is the NS & SR swimmer of the month for December. Cameron has been to 98% of the workouts this year, and in December he attended 100% of the time. Cameron swam at two important meets this past December, the Youth Cup, and the CAMO Invitational meet. At the Youth Cup meet he swam 6 events, posting personal best times in all of them. Then, even after this accomplishment, he traveled with the team to Montreal, and swam 7 events and continued to improve. His biggest improvements over last year’s times came in the 200 breaststroke where he improved by 6.2 seconds, the 200 free where he improved by 8 seconds, and the 400 IM where he improved by 13.4 seconds.

Congratulations Cameron and keep up the great work,

Alan Swanston

AG1 and AG2

Selin Ozturk

Selin has really made a commitment toward improving herself this season. Her attendance is now over 90 % and her attention to details during workouts are much better than a year ago. In December all of her hard work paid off with some great results at both Youth Cup and the Montreal meet. She finished with two silver medals at Youth Cup, and came very close to qualifying for Canadian Senior nationals. In Montreal she finished with two gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals.

Congratulations Selin and keep up the good work.

Ulf Ornhjelm

AG3 and AG4

Zach Shalovsky

December’s AG3/4 swimmer of the month honours go to Zach Shalovsky. At the 2009 Youth Cup meet held in Etobicoke, Zach dropped an impressive 4.5 seconds in his 200 Bk for a time of 2:29.62. This time was not only good enough to win the event, but it also represents his first Canadian Age Group Championship qualifying time! His other results from that meet were nothing to sneeze at either. Over the course of the weekend Zach dropped his previous best times by close to 15 seconds. The very next weekend in Montreal, Zach decimated his previous bests even more. By the end of the meet in Montreal, Zach had dropped another 27 seconds from his previous best times and brought home a significant haul of medals as well!

Great racing Zach! Keep it up!

Caroline Teskey

AG5

Kristen Sanders

During the month of December, Kristen had wonderful attendance. She arrives to workout on time, and is eager to begin swimming. At the Marilyn Bell Classic in Etobicoke, Kristen swam five personal best times, taking off a total of 27.4 seconds. Of the five events, she swam four A times and made Jr. Provincials in the 100 backstroke.

Congratulations Kristen and keep up the great work!!

Amanda Burchert

Development 1 and Development 2

Emma Tubaro

During the month of December Emma has had great attendance. She comes to workout smiling and with all of her equipment, ready to swim. In December Emma competed at the York Santa meet at York University. She swam three personal best times taking off a total of 19.03 seconds.

Congratulations Emma and keep up the great work!!

Development 3

Thomas Caughell

Since the beginning of the season, Thomas Caughell has worked very hard at every practice. He has been recognized as the Development 3’s swimmer of the month for his fantastic effort and great attendance. Thomas has shown improvement in his swimming because he always listens to the coaches’ instructions. He comes to practice eager to swim and learn something new. Thomas has worked very hard on his kick and it has improved a lot! Every day he works hard on improving little things about his technique. Thomas always brings joy and energy to the group. He also had great results at the York Santa meet, and we know he will continue to improve this year!

Congratulations Thomas and keep up the good work!
