The Newmarket Stingrays will be represented on two fronts when the NCAA Division I swimming and diving championships splash off Thursday in Columbus, OH.
Freshmen Matthew Swanston and Stanford University teammate Michael Zoldos both qualified for the three-day competition in which Stanford is considered among the favourites with 16 swimmers qualified for the meet.
Swanston is ranked 11th in the NCAA for the men’s 200-yard backstroke entering the meet.
Zoldos, who represents the Stingrays at major Canadian meets, is scheduled to compete in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
Only four Stingrays have previously competed at the NCAA Division 1 Swimming and Diving Championships.
Both swimmers will be among six Stingrays competing at senior national championships starting March 31 in Montreal. The meet also serves as the selection meet for the Pan Pacific Championships
