Jr. Pan Pacific Championships -Results!

Newmarket Stingrays swimmer Jeffrey Swanston  (age 16)was on the island of Maui in Hawaii representing the Canadian Junior National Team which raced at the Jr. Pan Pacific Championships which began on Thursday, Aug. 26th, and continued through Aug. 29th.

Jeffrey made two A finals:

200 backstroke              7th place         2:05.06

100 backstroke              8th place            57.70

Jeffrey also swam the backstroke leg of Canada’s 4 x100 medley relay, which finished 4th.

He also swam the 100 freestyle (54.44) and the 200 IM ( 2:10. 22) both in personal best times.

Congratulations Jeffrey!

Jeffrey earned his spot on the team from his 100 and 200 backstroke swims at the Summer National Championships which were in Victoria back in July.

The meet featured the best 18 & under swimmers from the Pacific rim countries, with the strongest being from the U.S., Australia, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand.  Some of the swimmers in attendance were racing last week at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Canadian Junior Swimmers geared up for Junior Pan Pacific Championships

KIHEI, Hawaii  – The Canadian Junior swim team will be feeding off the recent success of the senior and youth teams as they gear up to compete in Kihei Hawaii at the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships starting on August 26th.
Held on a yearly basis, the Junior Pan Pacific Championships brings together swimmers aged under 18 representing the four charter nations, Canada, Australia, Japan and the US.  At the last edition of the Junior Pan Pacs, Canada collected a total of fifteen medals (1 gold, 4 silver, 10 bronze).
“We have had a great month of international performances from our youth, para and senior teams,” said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO and National Coach for Swimming Canada.  “We want to keep that positive momentum within our teams and feed off these great performances as we move the country forward toward London (2012 Olympics)”
The 40 swimmer strong Canadian team will arrive in Hawaii on August 24, after attending a 2 week staging camp in Vancouver.  Members of the Youth Olympic Games team Jeremy Bagshaw of Victoria, Chad Bobrowsky of Calgary, Kyle McIntee of Plano, Lindsay Delmar of Calgary, Lauren Earp of Toronto, Rachel Nicol of Lethbridge and Tera Van Beilen of Oakville will join the team in Hawaii as they return from Singapore.
“The Junior Pan Pacs are a great opportunity for these young athletes to experience an international event, and is a great stepping stone to the senior team” added Lafontaine.
