World Junior Championships – finalist in 200 backstroke!
Jeffrey Swanston (age 17) just concluded swimming at the World Junior Championships, which were held in Lima, Peru from Aug. 16-21st.
Jeffrey was selected to the Canadian Team at the World Trials, which were held in Victoria in March. The meet was for the fastest swimmers in the world, aged under 19.
Jeffrey made the final in the 200 backstroke, finishing 6th in a personal best of 2:02.23. Of the swimmers ahead of him, only 2 were born the same year he was, and so that ranks him 3rd in the world for his year of birth (1994).
He also made the semi-final in both the 100 back and the 50 back, finishing 11th in the 100 back in a personal best of 56.85, and 13th in the 50 back.

Jeffrey Swanston has been named to the Canadian Team that will compete at the World Junior Championships this summer.
Jeffrey, age 16, was selected to the team from his 200 backstroke swim at the World Trials, on April 2nd. He had the fastest time in the event of all swimmers age under 19 , which was the necessary criteria to make the team.
The World Junior Championships will be held in Lima Peru from August 16-21st, 2011
Jeffrey will also be swimming the 50 and 100 backstroke in Lima.
