    Food for Thought

Sow an act, and you reap a habit; sow a habit, and you reap a character; sow a character, and you reap a destiny.

Coaching with Newmarket Stingrays Since: 1992

Why I Became A Swimming Coach: I was asked to!

Finest Coaching Success: All the swimmers who come in every day to work hard and who at the end of the day can say they learned something not only about swimming but about themselves and who leave the pool with a genuine smile.

Biggest influence on career of swimming coaching: Alan Swanston

Other Interests away from swimming: My kids

My Swimming History

  • I am the youngest of 7 kids who all swam and who were all highly involved in various sports (my mom was the master taxi driver!!).
  • I swam for two teams growing up (pre University), the York Swim club (3 years non consecutively) and the Etobicoke Swim club (8 years). I attended Indiana University on a full swimming scholarship and swam for Chet Jastramski, and in the summers swam for Bill Barton with the TOMAC and COMETS swim club.
  • Both Bart and Chet were coaches who epitomized the “coach as a true supporter” and who both kept it physically challenging but fun with their sense of humor and their true love of swimming. Both of these individuals were die hard proponents of self determination and self responsibility as keys to success….. which if you swim for Newmarket may seem somewhat of a no brainer but this was a totally foreign concept for me at the time!
  • I first made Sr. Nationals at age 14 in the 200 Bk, and made consolation finals and championship finals over the years in 100 Bk, 200 Bk, 200 IM, 400 IM and the 200 Br (which BTW was a minor miracle!)
  • I participated on the 1985 Ontario Canada Games Team, 1987 Canadian Hapoel Games Team, and 1987 Canadian Pan Pacific Games Team.
