Kelsey Lees
My name is Kelsey Lees. I am the coach of the Development 3 group.
My email in case you need to contact me is Swimmer_Kelsey_11@hotmail.com; my phone number is (905) 898-5142.
I joined the Newmarket Stingrays when I was in grade three. I joined because I loved swimming and I didn’t get to do enough in swimming lessons. I swam in the I Can Swim program, now called Splash, for one session, and then kept moving up the groups. The last one I was in was Senior with Alan as my coach. I swam for a total of 9 years, and loved it the whole time.
I became a coach because I love working with children. They are always really fun to be around. Furthermore, I love swimming, and being around a pool deck. It may be a little crazy at times, but something amazing is always happening there. I really love being a coach when I see the happiness on one of the swimmers faces when they have just done something they have never done before and are really proud of themselves.
This is the first year I have coached a group of my own, but I have assisted with Development 3 before, and I have coached Splash. Even before that I occasionally helped out at swim meets when one of the coaches needed an extra hand on deck. I assisted with Development 3 two years ago. This involved being on deck for their practices and going too many of their swim meets. I taught Splash for about two years usually doing the level 3 and 3+. During the summer of 2009 I taught swimming lessons at Green Dolphin Endeavour’s. I have Bronze Cross and I have Standard CPR.
I believe at this level of swimming technique is the most important thing, and I try to get all the kids to really concentrate on it. My goal is for all of the swimmers in my group to be able to swim all four strokes legally. As well, to be able to do proper starts and finishes. I believe kick is very important to swim well, which is why I make sure we do some every workout. I also want the kids to have fun. I want them to love to swim and want to come to every practice no matter what we are doing.
In my spare time there are many things I like to do including playing the flute. I am in a band at my school, and I have been every year of highschool. I also love to read, it doesn’t matter what type of book it is. I also love soccer I play it in the summer and have refereed it for a few years.
