    Food for Thought

Keep away from people who try to belittle you ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Registration FAQ

What is the meet fee account and why is it a separate payment from the registration fees?

This is your swimmers expense account for swim meet entries. There is a charge for each race your swimmer is entered in and these fees are paid to the swim club hosting the meet (e.g. $8 each – price will vary). The meet fee payment is kept in a separate account from registration funds and therefore requires separate post-dated cheques. As your child attends meets the appropriate fees are deducted from their account. The swimmers coach must finalize the entries 10-14 days before the meet depending on the meet’s requirements. If your swimmer is not planning on attending a scheduled meet you must advise their coach prior to the entries being finalized otherwise you will be charged entry fees. Any money left over in your meet fee account at the end of the season will be credited to your next swim year meet fee account or refunded in full when leaving the club.

How do the coaches determine which group a swimmer should join?

The Newmarket Stingrays’ program creates a steady progression for each swimmer as they develop their endurance and their skills. As a swimmer moves up through each program level there are more training hours in the pool and intensified training. We also try to keep swimmers of the same age together to support the fun aspect of competitive swimming. Experience has taught us that swimmers will get the most out of our program if they train with their peer group.

Why are meet fee funds kept in a separate account?

The meet fee funds are each member’s money and are held in trust for the swimmer’s personal meet fee expenses. These funds may not be used by the Club for general operating expenses, which is why they are kept in a completely separate bank account.
